When you leave home, things are new--different--in relation to everything you already know. What do you take in, what do you take with you? These are the stories of trips, of times; moments past. What do they mean? How does what you remember translate the experience? How do you share that experience with someone? This project is the very literal transition of memories and the transformation of stories. With words printed on index cards of memories lived, I've expanded the canvas to give a bigger picture. The stories we tell are a shared experience, Instead of a Postcard celebrates the sharing of stories.
My work draws upon the collision of private and public spheres; I find inspiration in the tragic beauty that lies just beneath the surface of the unquestioned quotidian sameness of our lives. My current project "Exiled Calcetn" has been made possible by a generous grant from both the Pew Charitable Trusts and the GoldToe Corporation.
